  • Mission, Vision, and Values Drive the San Antonio Community Hospital Employment Experience

  • From its humble beginnings in 1907, San Antonio Community Hospital has become a healthcare leader in Southern California's rapidly expanding Inland Empire. Today, more than 2,000 professional, technical, and support personnel cultivate their careers with us. Joined by many of the region's top physicians – comprising a 500-member medical staff – our team of skilled and compassionate individuals has earned us an exceptional reputation for quality patient care.

Guided by a straight forward mission, vision, and values.

Five core values are at the heart of everything we do at SACH. And unlike a majority of organizations, our values are far more than a poster on a wall or a letter in the orientation packet. See how we walk the talk every day when it comes to our values.

    • Mission –Improve the overall health of our regional community by offering healthcare services that both comfort and cure, in settings that inspire confidence, and in a manner that earns the trust of our patients, our physicians, and our employees.
    • Vision – Use our strengths to enhance our reputation for excellence in quality care, patient experience, and an exceptional working and practice environment.
    • Values
      • Safety – We make safety our highest priority for our patients, employees, physicians, and visitors.
      • Integrity – We do the right thing – ethically, legally, and morally.
      • Excellence – We hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality.
      • Compassion – We treat everyone with dignity and respect.
      • Accountability – We are accountable for our results and actions.

    Inspired by our legacy

    .

Founded in 1907, SACH began as the vision of Dr. William Howard Craig, a Pennsylvania native and1886 graduate of Johns Hopkins University – then known as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Baltimore. Five physicians staffed the modest, 18-bed facility. The hospital was managed by a team of nurses who also oversaw an affiliated school of nursing. Forty-five patients were seen during the facility's first six months of operation. Just a few short years later, in 1916, the hospital treated nearly 300 people.

As the community continued to grow, so did the hospital. Thanks to the generosity of Frances Mary Paul, the widow of a local banker, the hospital was able to raise the funds to move to a new building in 1924 – its location today. The West Pavilion was added in 1941, and nearly 100 years after it was founded, SACH was treating more than 150,000 patients each year. Today, in addition to the hospital, our facilities include the Rancho San Antonio Medical Plaza, the Sierra San Antonio Medical Plaza, and Outpatient Services within the Inland Empire.

While we've come a long way since our early days as a small, rural hospital, we remain inspired by the legacy of Dr. Craig. For 37 years, he tirelessly served the people of Upland as a general practitioner and surgeon, and dedicated his life to delivering the best medical care possible to his community. Our employees and physicians are committed to continuing this excellence in care.

Big results come from working together

Motivated by the possibility to do more

    .

In 2013, SACH will complete its most ambitious expansion project yet. Our $158 million project includes a 179,000-square-foot, four-story patient tower with 92 beds (12 ICU rooms and 80 private patient rooms). A new 58,000-square-foot Emergency Department will feature 52 beds, allowing the hospital's stroke and cardiac center to expand into the existing Emergency Department building.

Beyond the ability to better serve our ever-growing community, the expansion will help SACH maintain its status as a not-for-profit, stand-alone hospital and the Inland Empire region's leading provider of health care.
