SACH Receives Primary Stroke Center Certification

LatestNews_StrokeCenterCertAfter undergoing an on-site evaluation and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care, San Antonio Community Hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for certification as a Primary Stroke Center.

Time is brain and by achieving certification as a Primary Stroke Center, the hospital has proven it has the ability to provide effective, timely care to stroke victims and can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.
Primary Stroke Centers are required to meet certain standards of care, including a 24/7 team of physicians who are experts in diagnosing and treating strokes, round-the-clock imaging services, and a comprehensive commitment from hospital staff to coordinate and deliver rapid care to acute stroke patients.
Each year about 795,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke, which is the nation's third leading cause of death. On average in the US, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and someone dies every 3.1 minutes. Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the US, with about 4.7 million stroke survivors alive today.
