PowerOrders Glossary

Care Set - A set of orders grouped together under a single title for the convenience of users. Sometimes they are referred to as panels, protocols, or workups. Care sets are created according to the specifications of each department or organization. Once ordered, they no longer remain linked and must be managed individually.

Depart Process - Allows clinicians to efficiently manage the activities associated with the process of documenting and discharging a patient. The window serves as a launch pad for discharge-related applications and forms.

Dithered - An icon or button that is grayed out and not activated.

Drop Down Box - Window for data entry that has a down arrow to the window ’s immediate right.

Favorites Folder - A convenient feature that speeds up the ordering process by having common orders at the users ’ fingertips. This feature is managed by, and is unique to, each user.

Filter - Used by the user to select what and how information is displayed. Interacting with Orders (Activate) - Allows activation of a future order.

Interacting with Orders (Cancel/Discontinue) - Allows user to cancel a one time existing signed order or discontinue a continuing order.

Interacting with Orders (Cancel and Reorder) - Allows user to cancel an existing order and place another order for the same orderable item.

Interacting with Orders (Copy) - Allows user to copy an existing signed order.

Interacting with Orders (Modify) - Allows modification an existing signed order. Only IV rates can be modified from a signed order.

Interacting with Orders (Renew) - Allows user to renew a continuing order.

Interacting with Orders (Void) - Allows user to void, or delete, an existing signed order. Void is typically utilized for orders placed on an incorrect patient.

Medication List - This tab, located to the right of the orders tab, provides an easy view to providers of current and past inpatient, outpatient, and home medications.

Medication Reconciliation - A method to communicate to the next provider of service a complete list of medications when an organization refers or transfers a patient to another setting, service, practitioner, or level of care.

Navigator - Functions similarly to a flowsheet. It is located to the left of the Order Profile.

Order Details - The individual order information (such as dose, frequency, etc..).

Order Profile - Displays the patient ’s existing orders and provides a mean for viewing order details, order status, and modifying orders.

Order Sentence - An order, complete with all the details. Order Status - Reflects the stage the stage of completion for an order that has been entered into the system.

Order Status (Canceled) - Any order can be canceled to stop it immediately, but certain conditions may cause the status of some orders to go to Discontinued rather than Canceled. The Canceled status for orders with frequencies or intervals associated with them indicates that the first instance was never administered.

Order Status (Completed) - An order that has reached its defined stop date and time or whose associated tasks or procedures have been completed.

Order Status (Discontinued) - An order with a frequency or interval associated with it can be discontinued after the procedure or medication has been administered at least once.

Order Status (Future) - A status of Future is applied to orders with a start date and time that is in the future. Pre-admit orders not yet assigned to an encounter are given an order status of Future.

Order Status (Incomplete) - If an order is entered, but the user has not supplied all the necessary information, the order is entered into the system but has a status of incomplete. Incomplete orders are rarely used.

Order Status (Order) - The status of Order indicates that the order needs to be completed and signed.

Order Status (Ordered) - An order successfully entered and signed has a status of Ordered until the order is completed.

Order Status (Processing) - After signing a new order, the order status displays “Processing.&rdquo Clicking the Refresh button will update the system so that the status changes to Ordered.

Order Status (Transfer/Canceled) - Orders suspended because of a patient ’s temporary change of location can be given a Transfer/Cancel status. For example, the nursing orders for a patient sent to surgery are put in this status until the patient returns. Such orders can then be reactivated.

Order Status (Voided with Results) - An order is voided instead of canceled or discontinued to indicate that the order was placed in error, for example, on the wrong patient or for the wrong orderable. Without results, the order is not subject to drug interaction checking. If the order has been carried out (has results), then it is subject to interaction checking.

Orders Tab -This is used to place, view, modify, cancel and generally work with various types of orders. The three main sections of the Orders tab are the Navigator, the Order Profile and the order history and medication reconciliation area.

PowerOrders - Where a user can review results, enter, modify, review and manage orders.

PowerPlan -This is a care planning tool that is accessible via the PowerOrders tab in PowerChart. This tool allows you to manage orders, outcomes and interventions as they relate to a predefined plan of care. All orders within a PowerPlan can be easily located within the order window.

Tool Tips - Display for all icons or any text that is truncated. Hover the cursor over the icon or truncated text to view the associated information.
