Our state-of-the-art, 20-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides
highly sophisticated, yet compassionate care for newborn
babies
who are born prematurely or experience difficulties surrounding birth.
The NICU is staffed by neonatalogists, registered nurses, respiratory
and occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers who all
have expertise in meeting the special needs of these infants and their
families. We strive to keep parents well-informed and supported. Of
course, parents are welcome to bond with their baby and participate
in providing appropriate care based on the baby’s condition. Our
NICU team is committed to providing special care to special babies and
their families.
NICU Parent Support Groups
The miracle of birth is one of life’s greatest gifts, but not
all deliveries are picture perfect. No one can prepare you for the feelings
and uncertainties you will experience if your baby requires special
care. That’s why we are pleased to offer a variety of parent support
groups.
S.M.A.L.L. Talk (Sweet Miracles are Little Lives)
While your baby is in the NICU, please join us for S.M.A.L.L. Talk.
This group of volunteer parents offers support and information to parents
whose infants were born in need of special medical treatment. Parents
of NICU graduates are familiar with the special hospital routines, terminology,
and most of all, how it feels to have a child with critical needs.
Parenting Preemies
Once your baby goes home from the NICU, you and your baby are invited
to Parenting Preemies. This unique program is designed to foster optimal
early development of premature, low birth weight, and special needs
babies. You will receive support, education, and intervention through
telephone contact, correspondence, home visits, and group sessions.
You will also learn to understand your baby’s abilities through
play and care giving activities. Special attention is given to addressing
your concerns and identifying your individual strengths and resources.

Parent Talk
Parent Talk, an informal discussion group for families of children with
special needs, is also available for support after your baby goes home.
Please come and share your concerns, problem solving strategies, and
joys associated with raising your special child.
NICU Follow-up Clinic
Because NICU graduates are important to us, the NICU Follow-up Clinic
evaluates “at risk” infants at specific ages to assess developmental
milestones. Early identification of potential problems is essential
to ensure the child’s optimal development. A professional team
provides ongoing evaluation, plans individualized treatment, and makes
appropriate referrals. You are encouraged to work and play with your
infant to promote progress towards your child’s full potential.
