Overview and Services
The Clinical and Pathology Laboratories of San Antonio Community Hospital
serve those who are hospitalized, referred as an outpatient by their
physician, or receiving home care. The clinical lab, staffed 24 hours
a day with state-licensed technologists under the direction of pathologists,
works with the Medical Staff and other departments in the diagnosis
and treatment of patients through technical analysis of specimens.
Our full-service clinical laboratory offers blood bank and pathology
capabilities.
Accreditation
and Our Team
The College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), State of California, and Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid Services
accredit the Laboratory under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act
(CLIA).
The Medical Director is certified in both anatomical and clinical pathology.
Staff pathologists are board certified by the American Board of Pathology
and provide consultation
services to referring physicians. Technical
personnel performing highly complex testing are licensed by the State
of California as clinical laboratory scientists. Personnel drawing blood
are certified phlebotomists.
Reaching Out
The Laboratory offers home blood draws for homebound patients. We also
perform lab work and electrocardiograms (EKGs) at local skilled nursing
facilities to promote continuity of care for patients who are transferred
from our Hospital to these facilities. For more information or assistance,
