The Engineering Department is responsible for operating and maintaining
the Hospital facilities and equipment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Upland campus, which includes the main hospital and Buildings
685, 901, 1125, and 1148, contains over 1.2 million square feet on 26.5
acres. Rancho San Antonio Medical Center represents an additional 80,000
square feet and nearly 9 acres.
The Hospital has been described as a "mini city," and our
Engineering Department is responsible for the complex systems contributing
to its safe and efficient operation. Using a state-of-the-art cogeneration
system, the Hospital generates its own electricity and produces steam
for heating and cooling, saving over $1.5 million in utility costs each
year. The Engineering Department is responsible for performing preventive
maintenance on over 8,000 pieces of equipment. The Department oversees
all new construction, as well as the Hospital's safety improvement programs
including the management of utilities, fire prevention, and equipment.
The gardening staff diligently maintains the Hospital's grounds, while
the painters and carpenters ensure that the Hospital's buildings retain
their pristine appearance.
Personal
Electrical/Mechanical Equipment
For the safety of our patients and staff, all
electrically powered patient equipment used within the Hospital must
have an
incoming safety inspection. Examples may include personal computers,
radios, or electric shavers. If you bring any such device into the
Hospital,
please notify your nurse upon admission to the Hospital. Our staff
engineers will perform the required inspection in a timely manner.
