Like many hospitals, we define our community in terms of our service
area. Our primary service area is the west end of the area in Southern
California known as the Inland Empire, which includes the cities of
Chino, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, and Upland. Over
the past ten years, the Inland Empire, located in San Bernardino County,
has experienced a greater growth rate than most states in the country.
With this growth comes greater diversity, challenges to provide services,
and new opportunities for health care.
Our community is comprised of over 780,000 people, with a median age
of 32 years. We are ethnically diverse, with Hispanics representing
51% of our population, Caucasians 32%, African Americans 8%, Asian Americans
7% and other ethnic backgrounds 2%. Approximately 74% of our residents
25 years of age and older have graduated from high school and 16% of
them have gone on to attain a Bachelor's or Master's Degree. The average
household income is $72,400 and the median home value is $234,500. The
number of employed residents exceeds the number of jobs in the community
by approximately 20%, which means that a number of people are commuting
outside of our area to work.
